Opportunity: Analytics Engineering Consultant

We’re looking for an experienced analytics engineer to help strengthen and expand CR’s mobile analytics capabilities and surface insights from our existing analytics platforms. You’ll be working on two apps, (1) the Consumer Reports mobile app, which provides CR members with trusted ratings, reviews, and our AI-powered AskCR product; and (2) the Permission Slip app, which helps users take back control of the data companies have about them.

This short-term consulting engagement will involve advising on evolving our mobile analytics across both apps, which may include introducing new technologies, improving instrumentation, maintaining data pipelines, and setting up dashboards for visibility into our key metrics. We expect the engagement to span 2-3 months and begin imminently.

You’ll get the chance to work on exciting and fast-growing products within Consumer Reports, recently named by Fast Company as one of 2024’s most innovative not-for-profit companies.

What You Will Do

Support analytics efforts across both the Permission Slip and Consumer Reports mobile apps, with distinct responsibilities for each:

For the Consumer Reports Mobile App:

      • Provide expert guidance on analytics strategy and best practices.
      • Evaluate and advise on existing analytics implementations, ensuring we’re capturing all core metrics.
      • Recommend extensions of and improvements to our analytics instrumentation, prioritizing accuracy, real-time insights, and long-term scalability. This could include integration of modern SaaS tools like Segment, Amplitude, RevenueCat, and others.
      • Partner with our in-house Adobe analytics experts to assess potential enhancements to our analytics stack so that we have high-quality real-time data available for analysis.
      • Stand up mobile analytics dashboards in Databricks, pulling in data from multiple sources.
      • Help write SQL queries to address high priority questions on app performance, as applicable.

For the Permission Slip App:

      • Maintain and improve data pipelines to ensure accurate and efficient data processing.
      • Write complex SQL queries to analyze user behavior and cohorts, app activity, and request fulfillment trends.
      • Review and improve logging specifications to ensure event data can answer user experience questions
      • Address data quality issues and increase robustness of existing systems
      • Develop and maintain dashboards for clear, real-time visualization of analytics data.
      • Ensure privacy-by-design principles are upheld in all analytics implementations.

About You

  • At least 3 years of experience implementing end-to-end product analytics solutions.
  • Strong understanding of mobile analytics tooling and instrumentation best practices.
  • Experience working with DataBricks and PostgreSQL.
  • Proficiency in React Native logging and instrumentation.
  • Ability to build and maintain data pipelines and write complex queries for deep analysis.
  • Experience with dashboarding tools (e.g., Looker, Tableau, or similar).
  • A thoughtful approach to privacy-preserving analytics.
